Here are some of the fun things to do in and around Bar Harbor:
ACADIA NATIONAL PARK! It's
probably why you want to go Bar Harbor. There are miles to explore here. A great
place to start is the information center. They will be able to tell about everything
from the Carriage Path to the advanced trails over the island and up to the peaks.
A great day
trip is the CAT. It's the ferry that runs from Bar Harbor to Nova Scotia. There is a lot to see and do there
as well as on the boat. There are also some interesting ferries to some of the
smaller island off the coast of Mt. Desert.
It's
downeast Maine, so the sailing is amazing! There are a few boat excursions leaving from the town dock.
There are trips for whale watching, local
history, lobster fishing, and nature tours. You can even ride on an old schooner called
the Margaret Todd from the Bar Harbor Inn's dock. If you feel like doing your own
paddling, try Coastal Kayaking Tours and some of
the other outfitter who give ocean kayaking tours.
There are great
trails for riding bikes. It's a wonderful family event as well as a great way to
explore Acadia National Park. You can rent bikes for the whole family , or get
expert advise on purchasing one. Some good places to go in Bar Harbor are: Acadia Bike and Bar Harbor Bicycle Shop both on Cottage St.
There are some
good tour that are available. Some of them are by foot, by kayak, or by boat.
They range from nature tours in the park to whale watch excursions to guided tours along
the shore path of the older summer "cottages." If your interested in it,
there is probably a tour for it.
No matter what
season it is, Mt. Desert Island is beautiful to
photograph. Photo opportunities range from the beautiful blue ocean to the rocky
peaks of Cadillac Mountain, to the wonderful people and buildings. If you are a
professional photographer or just a point-and-shoot person, you won't go home
disappointed.
If your none of the above activities sounds fun, go shopping. Bar
Harbor have some wonderful galleries and shops. There is a lot of things that
probably aren't covered here that would be really great to do, but you only have so many
hours in a day.
When
everything else seems too much, there is always the
simple pleasure of watching the world
go by and the sun set in the west.
